Brake Linings?

Brake Linings? - OAP
My young friend is enjoying his 1992 Toyota Corolla but is hearing a noise from front end when braking hard which suggests need for replacement brake linings and perhaps even new discs.

He has not needed yet to establish a relationship with a reliable local garage so is wondering whether to 'go in blind' to whichever one is nearest to him or to use a national chain.

If the latter....which one would you recommend?

He is in a 'time poor' situation....but not cash rich!

For a start to be pedantic they'll be brake pads not linings as it's disc braked on the front.
Don't use a main chain especially a tyre/exhaust one ask around for a good independant garage. I beieve Toyota do a special deal on older ones so may be worth asking them for a quote.

But if he does, make sure they dont try flogging him anything other than what he came in for. Lost count the number of times Ive been told I need 2 new tyres whenever I go in for an exhaust.
