A friend of mine is looking at japanese cars with diesel engines. He fancies the civic 2.2d or the carolla 2.0 d-4d (does anyone know what the d-4d stands for)?

just wondered what peoples opinions were on these?

Can't comment on the engine, but I had until recently the new shape 1.6 petrol T-Spirit 5 door. Nice car, comfy and quiet, did everything it should and well equipped. Now moved up to an Avensis so Toyota must be doing something right for me!

One thing I would say is that spy shots of the new Corolla have been in the press recently, so expect a change in a year or so, whereas the Civic is new (if you are talking about the Civic just released).

D4D is Direct injection 4 valve Diesel.
