HJ I see that you strongly recommend Millers Oil. As a result of your advice I use their Diesel Additive with every fill. Why do you recommend their oil as opposed to other brands? I have recently purchased a 1.9TD 306 Peugot with 40K miles. As with all my cars I shall change oil every 5K. What would you recommend in the Millers range. I have noticed that their prices for semi and synthetic oil would seem good value.

Millers XFE semi-synthetic. Or you could go the whole hog with Millers XFE Synth fully synthetic. Alternatively, Mobil 1 diesel. Or Texaco Havoline diesel specific semi-synthetic. These are the oils of which I have had good experience. The 0800 number for Millers stockist is on the Scratchpad on this site.

Andrew,
I can strongly reccomend Morris oils which I have used on my 2 Diesel cars for some years.
They have the Multivis semi-synthetic XHD-FE diesel specific oil which is to the highest spec of Acea B3 and is a 10W-40 oil.
Also the Multivis semi synthetic which is both a diesel and petrol specific oil and is also to ACEA A3 and B3.
I mention the latter as this is the oil reccomended by Morris for my Vectra 2.0DT1.
They are an excellent company in relation to customer relations.
When I asked for info on which oil to use for the Vectra they sent me quite a lot of interesting and informative info on diesel specific oils including servicing lubricants for my car.
For the Vectra they reccomended the latter oil for the following reasons which I quote in part.
("However the Vectra requires lubricant which not only has a high diesel specification but also a high petrol engine specification. The reason for this is that petrol engine lubricants contain a higher amount of ant-wear additives to satisfactorily lubricate the highly loaded cams, rockers and valve train. Up until 1995 engine valve train wear on diesel engines was not perceived to be a problem. But in engines developed after that date particularly the Vauxhall Opel and Ford marque it has found to be so. Therefore the reason for the specifying of diesel engine lubricants with petrol engine levels of ant-wear hence CCMC PD2/G5") unquote.
I would suggest that you ask Morris for their service sheet on your car and any other info on 01743 232200.

I too use Morris oils with the following results on Citroens
1984 Visa GT sold at 122K miles
1989 BX 16valve sold at 151K miles
1992 XM diesel sold at 165K miles
all without mechanical problems and MoT emissions within limits
I have never used Millers because I don't see the need, yet.

There is only one Mobil 1 for cars in England - Mobil 1 Diesel simply has a different container, not a lot of people know that . I do 'cos Mobil UK told me so.
