does anyone know of an independant renault dealer in the Northants area I've got a diesel laguna with a moody gearbox and renalut want £2500 to sort it. the car is less than 2 years old but has 80,000 miles on it - renault Uk are not interested, also could a reconditioned gearbox be used. I only need it to last another 12 months.

Depends what's wrong with the gearbox. I would be most inclined to a 'merit repair' of your own gearbox. Find a local specialist.

EDIT: I mean local gearbox (as opposed to Renault) specialist. I have dealt with Milton Keynes gearbox centre in the past. They have been going a good many years and know their stuff. Try them.

I've made a few calls this pm and it looks like I can get the job done for between £500 to £1000 depending on the usual variables. this is a lot better than the £2500 than a main renault dealer was asking.we have had 6 lagunas, all less than 2 years old, and 3 of them have had gearboxes replaced. they are high mileage cars (60-80k) but I'd have expected better. We'll be having Mondeos next, which is what I was going to get in the first place, until our accountant said he'd seen a good deal on laguna's !!!!!

Hope your accountant is better on tax policy/ avoidance than he is at choosing cars, if not get another accountant. Can't you claim this back there must be a tax wheeze somewhere?

You want a petrol-head for an accountant. I'm lucky enough that SWMBO is both. She persuaded me I needed a new car this Autumn - still waiting for it to be delivered though. Mind you I can't get her out of her old MINI though.
