mitsubishi shogun cutting out - tegs
I have a 1993 Mitsubishi shogun 3.0 v6 petrol which cuts out adhoc. If I leave the car to cool down the engine starts again. However after a couple more miles it cuts out again. My local garage cannot find the fault. Any views?

I would suggest that this problem is caused by an intermittant fault in the engine efi control unit. This is a well known fault with Shoguns of this age and usually causes a non start or cutting out situation. The ecu is repairable -a new unit is approx £1000.The unit is situated in passenger footwell to the left of glovebox.

Many thanks. Will try this.

Apparently the fault with these ECU's is capacitors failing due to voltage spikes (the voltage rating of the capacitors used is not adequate).

If you can find a competent electronics engineer you may find that this is repairable for a lot less than £1000.

There is also a company in Nottingham that tests and repairs these ECU's. They charge about £40 for testing:
