Hi there, I have recently put my volvo s60 through the car wash, it had the full treatment, wash wax etc. Now every time i use the widscreen wipers, there is like a film of wax on my windscreen, I have tried, screenwash, widowlene, turps. Is there anything that any one could recommend, as its drivin me nuts! Thanks

I had the same problem; nip down to your local Vauxhall dealer and grab a bottle of Sonax screenwash additive. It's only small; you fill the little bulb with fluid and pour it into the tank. Stripped the greasy film right off.
Even comes in a nice lemony flavour.

What, you tasted it too!!

If you have tried turps (or white spirit) then it isn't wax that you have on there.
More than likely it is silicone based. The coating may weather after a few days - its not that tenacious, or you could use a detergent such as washing or dishwasher powder.
The one thing that will definitely shift it is sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), but this is extreme and should be used with great care.

Mr Muscle household window cleaner usually works for me -seems much better than Windolene, perhaps because it contains vinegar? I always found Windolene to be smeary when wipers used.

I was told years ago NEVER to use windolene on a car's windscreen. I think Brasso has been mentioned before on here. A forum search might bring up something.

As does newspaper.
Newspaper and vinegar is not a bad combination.

I second that, also try cutting a spud in half, wipe over screen with spud, then newspaper and vinegar,it works!

Finest smear remover is sauerkraut. Has to be made with wine though. Minor residue problems can be ignored, or lapped off, according to preference.

I'd try cerium oxide, it even shifts Rain X!

I had this problem about a month ago. Another backroomer recomended T-Cut and it worked.
The T-Cut won't scratch your glass but any lint will so make sure you have a spotlessly clean cloth and change it to a clean part every square inch or so.

Vinegar on a wadge of kitchen roll, nothing better, when I was doing 40k p/a I used to keep a couple of sachets of vinegar (Little Chef style) in the car to help restore full vision if plagued by road film while away from home.

Ozkleen 'Kitchen Power' (shock! this product actually works!) in a 500ml trigger pack. I always keep some in the car now. You can give the screen a blast of it while sitting at the traffic lights, for me it removes wax, road grime, and cheap de-icer residue.

And don't forget, from HJs column in the Telegraph on saturday
Prising from the ashes
Windscreen smeared with traffic film in the rain? Try a WW2 fighter pilot's trick: rub it with a wet cigarette (the tobacco end, not the filter). It should stay clear all day.

A better use for them than smoking?

Be sure to apply some Rain-X when you've finished. Wonderful stuff. Someone will be along in a moment to agree with me. (runs for cover)...
