Sticking speedometer needle - Neil
In cold weather the speedometer needle on my 1994 Audi 80 2.0E fails to move from its 'zero' position unitl the car is warm and is about 3 miles into a journey. I think this is due to the motor which drives the needle, sticking when cold but expanding slighltly and freeing up when warm. The odometer functions correctly.

Do you think a moderate dose of WD40 will do the trick or is it best to leave well alone? My only concern is that removal of the instrument cluster to tackle this job may incur other electrical problems.

Has anyone else seen this problem on Audi's or other makes of car?

That happens to me sometimes on my '88 80. All I do is tap the plastic in front of the speedo and it loosens up.
