Performance Resistor - volvos60T5SE
Hi there. One of my (niaeve) friends bought a £5 "performance chip" from ebay, as i thought there is a small catch, all it is, is a small resistor! and it is fitted between the two connections on the IAT sensor. There is a clear increase in performance. I was wondering how these little things work and how it harms the engine, thats if it does???? any brainboxes out there know??

The resistor 'fools' the engine management system in thinking that the induction air temp is colder than it really is.
Colder air is more dense, therefore more fuel is injected to obtain the theoretical optimim mixture.
Most engines give more power when run a little richer - usually at the expense of fuel consumption and pollution.

if fitted, the car will be constantly overfuelling and will kill the cat very very quickly, unless he has already decatted it?
