Renault Scenic Belts - bikemade3
Family friend has in the last 3 weeks bought a secondhand Renault Scenic 1.6 from a car supermaket in Devon. Car is a 02 with 70k and came with cambelt change. Car is now with Kings of Taunton ( franchised Renault dealer) who have diagnosed a nylon sprocket( should be metal) with partially stripped teeth and non Renault cambelt as the cause of the ticking noise that was first noticed last Friday.

They have also stated that the other 2 sprockets and tensioners are originals and should have been changed as a set. Cost for this complete set inc labour is in the region of £400.

The supermarket appear at the moment to be happy to pay for a replacement belt, but friend is a bit dubious if they'll cough up for the complete set.

In addition to this the warranty is only valid if the manufacturers servicing schedule is followed. As the market appears not to have followed Renaults recommendations does this invalidate their warranty.

Should the supermarket not cover the cost of the full set i've recommended they get a written garagre report into what they have found incorrect and what they have had to do to rectify the situation.Pay to get the car back and submit this thru small claims court.

Any other advice we could give?
