Replacing tyre on a Golf VR6 - Roger Jones
The Firestone Firehawk 690s (205x50) have worn out on the front of my late 1996 VW Golf VR6 after 17500 miles of gentle driving. Any opinions and recommendations on replacements? I'd like to get a few more miles out of the next lot and am leaning towards Michelin again, but am open to other ideas. Looks like we'll be keeping this wonderful car for the 10 years I originally envisaged, if not longer.

17,500 miles on the fronts of a VR6 is excellent mileage. But Firestones are noisy. Try Pirelli P6000s or Michelin Pilots.

I've been most impressed with Michelin Pilot HX. Plenty of grip, last well and quiet. I get the impression they last longer than the Pirelli P6000.

Thanks folks. Very helpful, and comforting in that you have confirmed my tentative choice.
