Felt I just had to share this.
Today, I was going along the main street of a town I don't often visit, when I spotted about 500 yards ahead a white van with yellow markings and with the rear doors open, facing towards me. For a split second, I had the usual gut-reaction - you know, am I just over the limit, have they spotted me, ease off the speed a little.
I immediately realised that none of these reactions were appropriate - partly because it was a delivery van, but mainly because it was in the pedestrian zone and I was on foot.
D'OH!!!

Were you worried about what gear you were in?

Nah, he's got an automatic transmission.

I'm sure he was very smartly dressed - apart from the wellies, which can take the edge off your speed...

Nah, that's the leaky CV boots you're thinking of.
"... he's got an automatic transmission" - Hmm, I think I'd better be the one to make a comment about not having my brain in gear ...
