I have a 51 plate Picasso with 40k on it. When it starts from cold, it has a sort of scrapy-rattly sound, which I've taken to be a bit of heat shield vibrating. But someone has suggested it might be a tensioner bearing. Does that sound plausible? How can I diagnose this?
TIA

I'll bet it's an HDi?
In which case, it will need a new crankshaft pulley. Needs seeing to ASAP otherwise the pulley can disintegrate totally and take the cambelt off, with predictable (expensive!) results.
Have a look at the pulley, and see if you can see any rust / dust signs on it. Photos of failed pulley here:

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

No, it's a 1.8 petrol. Apparently the tensioner bearings commonly wear out, but of course anything to do with the cambelt needs care.
