On my new shape Vectra I noticed that when pulling the NSR wheel from top to bottom there is significant movement , enough to actually see it ! I believe its the top stabiliser arm bush thats gone . Will the car be dangerous to drive on a motorway like this .

Are you sure it's not a wheel bearing, try and turn wheel quickly by hans and listen for a droning noise, or while it is turning feel on the spring or shocker foe a vibration.

Are you sure it's not a wheel bearing,
Get someone to apply the brakes for you. If the play is still there, then it won't be a wheel bearing.
|
Did try that , with brakes applied holding the road wheel NSR at the 12oclock and 6oclock position a lot of play ! Holding wheel at 3oclock and 9 oclock no movement so must be that top stabilser arm bush .BUT IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE LIKE THIS .

If the off-side-rear does not move at all then it sounds like a problem, however if both are the same then it is perhaps OK, perhaps drive down to the dealer for advice.

The amount of free play in the wheel will be significantly more when the car is jacked up and there is no weight on the suspension components. Is there any movement when the car is on terra firma? I imagine *worse* case senario is that your tyre will wear unevenly as the camber will be slightly out.

All sorted now , it was the rear top staibiliser arm . The out bush was absolutally knackered !! Could by just a bush though , had to buy complete arm .
Thanks for the advice though chaps !
