Just had engine repaired after headgasket went. Went to local honest joe backstreet garage. Seemed ok for few weeks then today engine makes a knocking noise during idle when accelerate noise goes. When idling car sounds like old diesel taxi. Is it serious??? Prob take it back when they're open just is it ok to drive????

your probably best not to use it if possible, if you must use it then check theres plenty of oil and water in it
it could just be a loose braket or heat sheild

Wonder if you dont mean tapping noise rather than knock?.It may possibly be lack of oil to tappets at tickover..Just a thought.

yeah car is citroen xsara 1.4i s reg {Duly added to subject header. DD}. Engine was misfiring garage said headgasket gone and ignition coil pack needed. Sent cylinders away to be checked and skimmed. Sound was tapping rather than knocking. Drove it today and tapping sound gone prob because weather hotter today. Sound only audible at idle and below 30 above 30 sound goes. seems ok now.
