I have just been told by our mechanic that our clio is noisy due to a problem with the crankshaft. I am not a knowledagble person when it comes to cars so dont know how serious this is.
Is it a costly repair?
Cheers

In a word yes! Crankshaft repairs require the engine to be removed and dismantled. Have you a better description of the fault though? How many miles has the car done? What exactly is the proposed repair?

Well, the crankshaft is usually the first thing you put in when you build an engine, so if it needs replacement, another engine is usually the best solution - this will cost from several hundred pounds upwards, depending on the engine, and the option chosen for replacement. Having said that, quite a few modern cars have damped crankshaft pulleys that drive alternators PAS pumps etc, and these can break up and cause a knocking sound, so this might be the cause - replacing these usually costs less than £200. Did the mechanic not give an idea of the cost of what was necessary to repair?

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

The mileage is 76000. He didnt mention a price but he said he was confident it would not be too great a repair bill.
The knocking only seemed apparent when reving the car excessively.
Oh lord, yet another expensive car bill!!!
