My reversing lights do not work, I have a Peugeot 306 Diesel Turbo, I have checked bulbs, lighting array for corrosion ad fuses, is there a switch attached to the gearbox or engine compartment? If so where do I locate it and how do I diagnose and fix the problem?

The reversing light switch is located in the engine bay near the clutch cable/housing. On my 306 it is a white plug and connector.
I have no experience of how difficult it is to replace,perhaps some wd40 on the connectors is all thats needed.
