Mondeo Whining/Whistle
Mondeo Whining/Whistle - DaveKent
Hi. I have a P reg 2.0L Zetec Mondeo. Whenever I start it up There is a high pitch whinning/whistling (like wind blowing through a gap) sound coming from the engine. It only last while I start it up. As soon as I start to move the car it goes away.
Anyone any idea what this odd sound might be?

Many thanks in advance.

I've looked at that and all is ok. It had a new cam belt fitted about a month ago. Could it be that?
The noise is much worse now first thing. Like a high pitch screaming.
Like I said before it goes away within a min. Start her up, it fine, give it some light revs and the screaming starts.

Anyone any ideas?

Many Thanks in advance.

Could it be the fan/drive belt?

Try putting some talcum powder on the inner belt surface (engine off!) and see if it stops/reduces it. Might not last too long if it does.

If it does work, try spraying the belt with Holts Rubber Lubricant.

i would agree with frostbite, as you say has new cambelt. alternator belt would be removed to do this. check the tension as it may have been replaced , new belts do settle and stretch may just need re-tension...cheers...keo.

I was going to try this this morning, but yesterday morning I srayed the area with WD40, and lo and behold the screaming sound stopped this morning. Have to see if it comes back tomorrow. If it dosent, isnt there anything WD40 can't do?
(Dont state the obvious like it cant go th the shops and get your paper or cook you a nice fry up (",)

If it does come back, check the tension of the belt. WD40 is a lubricant, you may have encouraged the belt to slip but not make a noise doing it. If the belt is in good condition, and the tension is ok, use a belt dressing to make it grip with no noise.
