Focus 98 Tdi - BrianM
A friend has an intermittent problem with his Focus, and I wonder whether anyone can give him any idea what the problem may be.

Sometimes when he takes his foot of the accelerator to slow down in fifth gear, as the car is slowing usually at around 60mph, the revs drop to 1000rpm. When he presses the accelerator again, nothing happens, so he has to pull over. Once the car has been restarted, everything is fine again. This seems to happen every few days.

If anyone has seen this before and knows what it might be, your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Sounds like the throttle sensor, check the fault codes.

Thanks Steve. He got a garage to look at the car today and the fault has been diagnosed as (I think) the 'sensometer' on the accelerator. Not being mechanically minded, I don't know if that the same thing you suggested. The garage said they have seen similar faults on a couple of Fiestas. He has been quoted about £150 plus VAT to fix it.
