Punto snapped ignition key in barrel - Halmer
My sister in law's key has snapped in the ignition. It is a T reg diesel. She has compounded the problem by pushing the remains further into the barrel.

She has the 'red' key.

What is the best thing to do please. She has tried tweezers but it is too far in.

I'd contact an auto locksmith. It won't be the first time they've heard of it and they may have a cunning way of getting it out without removing the lock barrel.

Didn't even realise such a trade existed!

Try adding a v.small amount of superglue to the remainder of the key that's still on the keyring and see if you can attach it to the other part still in the lock.

I would have suggested that earlier but for the fact that the broken off part of the key was stated to have been pushed further in.....

In that case, put the superglue on a thin piece of metal (or a small screwdriver) instead. First making sure that the ignition barrel is turned to the postition where you usually can remove the key.
