hi i own a rover 200 hatchback and recently me and my car had a difference of opinion. this resulted in a ruined piston two cracked valves and a scored head in total about a grand and bit worth of damage. i dont want to have to scrap my car as it is worth far more than that, do you think it would be advisable to buy a new engine or repair my exsisting one. the engine is a 1.4 twin cam 16v injection.

I dont think its worth repairing..Google search come up with
www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=recon+cylinder+h...h
possibly a recon or second hand low mileage..Though I cannot relate low mileage to an engine ie its used..Dont know how much a new unit is. so cannot help there..Try rovers for a quote..then cost of recon/second/H plus fitting. As regard second hand make sure you check the warranty out before buying..people often get caught out with these.Especially small print..Hope that helps

If you live anywhere near Birmingham then Viking will supply and fit a decent secondhand engine for around £200. You also get a 30 day guarantee.

Supply and fit for £200? I couldn't/wouldn't fit it for that!
