I've just bought a 1997 Astra 1.6 CDi Auto. Never had a Vauxhall before. Seems a great car solid car, much better than the Escort I just sold. The only thing is the temp gauge often rises to the three-quarter mark. Doesn't actually go into the red, but sometimes gets alarmingly close, then drops back. Anybody know if this is normal for an Astra, or should I get it checked out? Thanks

This is quite normal for this model Astra. As long as the needle does not reach the red zone & the cooling fan cuts in as reqd ,do not worry.

As elekie&a/c doctor says, perfectly normal.
Should sit at around 85ºC once warmed up, and the fan should kick in at around 90ºC.
