astra 1.7 td 1996. how can i tell if i have the vauxhall or isuzu engine. in the service booklet it says the engine is a x17 dt. that means nothing to me...

If the injectors are at the back of the cam cover, it's an Isuzu

If they are at the front, it's a Vauxhall engine.

I'm pretty sure the GM engine is referred to as the 17dtl, the 68 bhp low pressure turbo model. This engine has 'DIESEL' written on the black cam cover in white letters.
I think the Isuzu 82 bhp has 'Turbo' in red letters on the top.
I think P reg and onward the isuzu Astra was badged TDS.

I might be wrong, but the alternator on Isuzu is just behing driver side wheel, dont think it is on GM. 17DT is code for Isuzu.
