I'm considering the Megane CC as an everyday car to replace my current Focus and my MGF (which is used rarely).
I know that one of the main problems with these type of cars is the roof failing (I've looked at the Car by Car), but is there anything else that is prone to go wrong with them?
Any first hand experiences gratefully recieved.
(I'm looking at the top spec diesel version specifically)
Thanks,
Phil

A neighbour works in a Renault dealership - lucky her!! Let's just say she would never buy a Renault and certainly not the CC version. The CC is OK when it's working, but you must read the manual and understand how to open and close it then read it again. Get it wrong and the roof WILL get stuck. It has no manual facility and you will be off to the dealership. They will recoginise the problem, know it's an operators fault and charge you £150 to reset the system. The 'clever' keycard system is also very flaky - get the card dirty by leaving it lying around and any bits of grit, biscuit, cereal, jam etc etc will be transferred into the slot in the car - car fails to start and its another expensive job to sort out. I'd do a search on 'Renault Faults' in Google if you want more horror stories.

I think the fact that she won't buy Renault really doesn't count for anything to be honest.
There are Renault bashers and Renault lovers.
See previous threads on the matter.

I used to be a Renault-lover (I had 7 in a row over 20 years, all very reliable), but this was before the key-card and the elctronic handbrake. Renault have often pioneered things that then become universal, and I think they invented the term 'plip'. So are we all in for these new gadgets in future?
Has anyone any experience of the key-card? I too can see what might happen when it gets worn and dirty, and I can visualise being stranded in some remote part of the country, with no mobile signal and one of those error message on the car's computer of the sort that Bill Gates likes to inflict on Microsoft users.
But if they're in fact more reliable than they sound, I'd be glad to know. If Renaults get a better name for reliability than they have a better chance of holding their value. And is so - to come back to Phil's question - the Megane CC could be a very good bet.

I have experience of the key card (father has a new Espace). Dont know why anyone would worry about them. You dont even have to put it in the slot, just leave it in your pocket, so no danger of crumbs(?) etc getting in.
(PS his has been fine so far!)

Phil,
I treated myself to a CC earlier this year, and I'm very impressed, especially with the diesel engine. I understand there were problems with the roof mechanisms on pre June 04 models but this was now been rectified by a modification. Myself I've had no trouble whatsoever, and as long as you don't do anything stupid like overloading the boot so the roof stowage area is obstructed then I don't see what's so difficult about pressing the down or up button!
I've had no problem with the keycard either, the diesel privelege model has a hands free card which you just need to keep in your pocket.
You may find there's quite a long wait for delivery, but it's worth checking out some brokers for the best deal, eg ukcarbroker which I can reccommend.
There's a good independant website which is well worth checking out, www.meganecc.com.
