Ok, my 306 diesel has no glow lamp light on the dash! It takes 2-3 cranks to start so i assume the lamps are not heating. However, i've changed the glow lamps and still no light! Whats causing this? a loose connection? can anyone shed any light?!! Thanks :(

If it starts within 2-3 turns of the engine the glows are working OK, and the most likely problem is that the glow plug light bulb in the dash has failed. If on the other hand it takes 2 - 3 goes at cranking it for 10seconds or more a time, then the glow plugs are not working. In this case I would suspect either the glow plug relay or timer itself. Turn the ignition on, count 10seconds and then start the engine. If it starts almost immediately it's just the light, if not it's more serious.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Hi Richard,
I definately know the glow plugs work cause randomly the light will come on and then the car starts instantly! But usually the car will take 2-3 cranks before even firing and no light is seen! i'll look into relays and timing, but any other tips would be great.

Sounds near identical to a problem I had with the similarly engined BX. The nut/bolt holding earthing strap from the glow pug control unit to ther body shell was loose.
