help needed big time. am replacing my exhaust on my mk2 golf gti, the manifold meets the tail pipe with spring clips, my haynes book says its almost impossible to fit them back on without a specialist tool. anyone no if there is a way around this? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks.

I expanded the exhaust C clips on my mk2 1.6 golf with road spring compressors using them the wrong way round (in expansion instead of compression), it worked but I do not think I would try it again unless I could get hold of the correct tool.

With the help of a mate holding the spring clip in position, get under the car and thread a rope throught the bottom loop of the clip,and then get a lever bar and tie the rope around it to make a big loop and then pull like billy o, this i must say could result in injury keep fingers clear of clip and dont let the lever bar be in a position to clock you if rope breaks,
