mondeo 1.8 auto/over revving - algomas

Recently the revs of my car are going up to 4/5 on my tachometer, before changing gear when I start and when driving.This happens sometimes from cold always when warm.If I slow down to below 15mph and I wish to accelarate the engine revvs as above before changing gear.If I am over 15mph car accelerates normally.
the car has no problems changing gear after this.
This is an automatic car.Can anyone help please?
