Hilux Clutch - owen
The clutch on my 1985 Hilux is starting to slip, especially in 3rd or 4th gear uphill.

Is there any other possible problem that could cause this OTHER than a worn/contaminated clutch? It's hydraulic, so could any fault in the hyraulic system cause the same thing? Basically I don't want to go to the expense of changing the clutch (£200+) without knowing that it'll fix it!

TIA.

I once bought a Land Rover with a slipping clutch, turned out that the flexible hydraulic hose to the slave cylinder had collapsed internally, and was allowing fluid to go one way (into the slave cylinder) but then almost totally preventing it from flowing back out again.

But I suspect that fault is a lot less common than a worn out clutch plate.

I suspect you are right Richard.

Is there any way of testing the hydraulic system without spending money and replacing bits?
