Hi all
A couple of weeks ago i noticed a loud grinding/grating/quick knocking noise coming from my front n/s on my 2L 306 xsi 1994. The noise is only noticable when accelerating from standstill or in 2nd gear and pulling away sharpish.
There's no other noises when on full lock, turning corners gently or going over bumps in a straight line.
I've taken her to 2 garages, one said it was a lower arm suspension bush, and the other said they were fine but it might be the mountings instead?
The steering also does not seem as responsive anymore.
Any ideas? or any ways i can check things out myself?

I am inclined to think this is a resonance problem of some sort.
I once had a similar problem on my 306 which only happened at certain revs. Turned out to be broken fixing bracket which held the coolant pipes to the bulk head wall (somewhere behind battery/intercooler area).

Will have a good check all round, and see if anythings amiss. Was worried it might be the driveshafts or something. Wish you could completly trust garages!

I use them for all mechanical work that I can't do on my wife's 306. Top quality, very well priced, and very honest and friendly. I truly can't fault them. After half an hour's work underneath the car, they even diagnosed a weird handling problem to be tyre pressures (my expensive gauge was wrong), and didn't want to take any money from me. They were right, too!

Thanks for the replies guys, not 2 far from Oxon, so will ask Storm Autos to check the whole front suspension for me. I did prang a kerb last month, so could be any of your suggestions.

Would be inclined to check out wheel bearing.may be a bearing collapsed it wont always show up.if one bearing collapsed even the experts will find it hard to notice?.Just a thought
