ive got a 1998 ford fiesta diesel 1.8 which requires a replacement engine, ive located a unit fro a 1998 ford escort 1.8 diesel, does anyone know if it will fit?

If it is the same year same type engine, i would expect so, but don't take my word for it! I would expect to have to re-route a number of hoses etc though, to the cooling system for example

I was under the impression that the 1.8TD used during 1998 was a common engine for all Ford's The one I've got in my Focus is certainly the same as both the Mondeo and Escort - on the other hand it's quite a squeeze in my car so I don't know how much would have been modified to shoehorn it into the Fiesta.
I checked HJ's car by car breakdown and it gives no indication of a diesel option for Fiesta's of that vintage so I couldn't say for example whether they removed the intercooler for yours.

Just looked up both applications on my system (same as a Ford dealers) for the same 1.8 non Turbo Diesel engine (D18NA).
Comes up with same number (FINIS 6961057) for a unit stripped of all ancillaries (Starter, Alternator, etc).

This reminds me of the problems page of the off road car mag I used to buy. Frequently published letters along the lines of "Can I fit a Rolls Royce turbo-prop engine in my Fiat 500?"

in short yes it will fit straight in. Though if you use the escort gear box you have to modify fiesta driveshafts, hope that helps
I have done many fiesta / escort swaps you might have to use engine mounts of of fiesta block
