mondeo diesel cam belt - very unhappy
my m reg 1.8 turbo diesel estate cam belt just broke is this a noncontact engine or am in for a shock i was going up a hill at about 12mph at about 1500rpm

Sorry to hear that but it is a contact engine . How many miles since the belt was last changed ?

There is a replacement engine available on ebay if you are brave !!

How long is a piece of string??

You maybe lucky and just have a couple of bent valves to replace and possibly a sheared woodruff key inside the camshaft timing belt wheel.

If your really unlucky the worse could be the camshaft has broken, the camshaft bearing keeps(caps) broken, bent valves and damaged cylinder head also pistons. At this stage, it maybe better to find a replacement engine.

Only you can way the pro's and con's if its worth the expense.

£190 ( VAT,Labour parts ) from Ford to replace cambelt ,tensioner and pump belt.For the piece of mind the cost is not great certainly less than the cost of replacing a blown engine
