Any Lasting Damage? - Toyota Corolla - misterp
Last night I endured the worst journey of my life.8 hours in terrible conditions and total gridlock to travel 25 miles home.My toyota corolla D4D thankfully didn\'t let me down but it ran solidly for this time crawling along. It has only covered 1500 miles since new last month. Will this journey have done any lasting damage to my car, should I have the oil changed earlier than the initial 10 k service etc???

Thanks

Short answer, no and no.

Long answer, I doubt very much you were labouring the engine, and from previous posts, changing the oil for the first time earlier than specified can result in higher oil consuption because the engine components will not bed in properly.

Asssuming (due to the need for the heater) the engine was running most of that time and was nice and hot, then no worries mate

Yes I kept the heater going intermittently to keep the engine temp down, even though it meant having to keep the window open sometimes! cheers

I wouldn't worry about it, a car that new would have a working cooling system that could keep the temperature safe even if left unmoved for hours.

Try doing the same journey in a 10 year old Escort with no working radiator fan, far more exciting :-)

I don't think you needed to boil yourself to keep the engine temperature down - remember that your car will have been tested in real extremes of heat and cold - honest, the car will be able to cope with much worse!
