My daughter is seeking a ZR 105 so we had a run out to the
local Dealer on Saturday morning. She was happy so we set
about negotiating on a one year old one priced at £8995.

No we could not have a reduction for cash and no trade in.
Second attempt - No we could not have a CD player either.

Tried for a new one. We don't give discounts (despite all
the posters on the windows) so we gave up in despair and went home.

Can anyone give me a contact number at Rover to try to have
a rational discussion with somebody in Sales?

P S I am also eligible for MG car club Preferred Customer
Discount - but nobody knows if that is "as well as" or "instead of".

P P S Does anyone know where I can get a ZR 105 one year old
at a sensible price bearing in mind the alleged high rate of
depreciation...?

Apologies as I cannot be of direct help, and my post is off-topic. I clicked on your profile (how about adding {P} to your user name to encourage others to check your profile?); and notice that your web-site link would be a true link if you omitted the http:// part of it. Also, since you give an e-mail address on that web site, why not include it in your profile here?

I believe the MG Rover website has some pretty good offers on it, and I think you can even deal direct with the company if you want an easy life.

Otherwise, www.drivethedeal.com, which has a base model 1.4 for £8916 and www.carpricecheck.com would be a good place to start.

I believe the Bells Group (Manchester way) www.bells-group.co.uk have a pretty good reputation for being discounters, although there are rarely prices on their website.

Oh and of course check the AutoTrader website.

Hi there,

Sounds like a case or Rover-saleman-itis. I had to experience a spell of this when looking for a 75, the salesman simply didn't want to know despite wanting to do a deal and I got more than a little irate.

If you feel aggrieved by their treatment ask to speak to the showroom manager, explain what you are looking for and price which doesn't seem unreasonable (I'm assuming the ZR105 here).

I did this and got five-star treatment after that. The manager put me onto his most attentive salesman who was more than willing to do a deal and they got a sale, I got the car I wanted.

Give it a go.

I DID also speak to the manager - he agreed with his
salesman but did offer free metallic paint. My daughter
wanted plain yellow.....

I\'m still utterly amazed as all they had to do to make a
sale was a little conciliation!

When Mrs M bought a car last year we decided on precise
make model and spec and asked three main dealers (not Rover!)
to quote \"best price\". One dealer amazed us and two were
sick as proverbial parrots and asked for another go.
They didn\'t get the chance and Mrs M got a terrific deal!

Sorry, Tim Wood or Meldrew. I didn't realise my post would cause umbrage. I usually look at a profile just so that a reply can be specifically targetted to the person's technical/general background. The comment about e-mail was an observation of fact, that it is shown on your web-site, you are happy to flag up your web-site, and so your e-mail is 2-clicks away when it could be 1-click away. As I said, it was merely a suggestion and you can happily ignore my post.

Far from ignoring it I have taken action - the reference
to web site and email has been removed completely so I
can avoid claims for RSI originating in this forum.

If you spoke with the Salesman in a similarily unfriendly manner as that with which you spoke to em.bee. I am not surprised that you encountered a lack of cooperation and flexibility from him.

.. unfriendly manner as that with which you spoke to em.bee. I guess that ... >>

I admit I was taken aback by meldrew's response. Perhaps I have upset him at some time with a post elsewhere. Although with that username, perhaps I should have expected it. I was taken in by meldrew's very helpful wbsite
www.e-accountant.co.uk/
where he offers his own design software free to all and by his photo in which he looks like a very nice gentleman with looks similar to the presenter of "Sale of the Century".

I'll draw a line under this episode, like any chartered accountant would.

If you are a member of BASC you could be entitled to a large discount. They were advertising an offer on the 75/MG at about 20% below list.
