The dorks who fitted my number plates, drilled the holes thro the blue Euro GB bit, and then fitted white plastic screw covers.
Now its no big deal I know, but for the sake of a few pence i would like to tidy it up. I have seen plates fitted with blue screw covers, but cant find them in my local halfords or motor spares shop. Anyone seen them for sale?

Try a bit of blue paint
I had thought of that, but I didnt want to admit being that sad
Still I can take my plate down to B&Q, give it to the guy who runs the Dulux magic paint matcher/mixer and say I want 0.00001 litres of that please
|
Might be worth a try but I agree you will look very, very sad.

I'd give it three or four weeks. You'll have a few dead flies masking the offending article by that stage. That coupled with only one tire pressure sensor working, a burnt out wiring loom and several engine failures will probably lever it a bit further down your priority list RF :)
Just joshing chief!

Firstly, we dont have flies in surrey, they live in Middlesex
Secondly it came delivered without *any* tyre pressure sensors, just regular valves in the rims. I am trying to find out if renault have dropped this feature, or just ran out of valves at the factory. Still - one less thing to go wrong.

Take it back to the dork, ask him to do the job again - properly. Claim for your wasted time & expenses. You will be doing other motorists a favour by doing so - as the dork, if he or his manager has any sense, will be more careful with future jobs.

Take the screws out, repair the holes (or replace plates) & use some heavy duty double sided tape, instead.
I confess, I don't like 'untidy' plates. It's so tatty to see the number of new cars, with them badly fitted.Either metal screws showing, uneven lettering, or the plate not centralised or unlevel.
Maybee it's that Feng-Shui stuff getting to me again!!

Glad to see double sided tape recomended.Have had this used on my last two cars as living on the coast I had seen so many cars where the bolts had rusted even to the extent of forcing off the plastic covers.Glad this method is still legal

"Take the screws out, repair the holes.."
Quite agree - the holes in the metal are the ones you need to worry about, as they won't have been rustproofed, or even painted. Double-sided sticky is more than adequate, as you will discover if you ever come to take the plate off!

I agree with M.B. the idiot should be fired or reprimanded. Idiots like that don't deserve a job!

What I find really irritating is when you pick up your car and the (main) dealer has put brand new plates on but a couple of weeks later the laminate has started to peel from the backing perspex. After 6 months the splits are full of muck and condensation - makes the car look a million dollars
|
Take it back and insist they make you another plate with both of the holes drilled in yellow sections. I fitted new plates to my sister's car a few weeks ago and took great pains to measure everything up and get both holes horizontal and equally spaced from the centre line. The extra bit of time and care made all the difference.

Why do we have GB on Euro plates? UK is a member of Euroland, GB is not. Tony B doesn't know the difference but it matters a lot to some of us who are not under the yoke of Brussels.
|
I'm not sure what your point is but as the UK is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, it is by inclusion anyway.
The answer is of course that the country code for Great Britain (I'm not sure about Northern Ireland though) is GB, so that's what we have. Those codes are completely separate from the EU; the flag is there to show that the car is from an EU member state at any border controls that it may encounter.

Last year's advice on these plates was that French Police still wanted a GB plate as well. I took the course of carrying one in my door pocket, and if stopped, I would have apologised for 'forgetting' to apply it. Anyone know of recent cases where people have been stopped for only displaying euro standard plates?

The story is that nationality plates are prescribed by international treaty and the EU cannot over rule that. Are the flics as prescriptive with the Dutch or the Belgians?.

There are parts of GB that are not part of the EU - e.g. the Channel Islands, which are part of GB but not part of UK and are self-governing.
|
I think that the Scots and the Welsh have a good case for not wanting to be seen as part of GB when they travel abroad, given the recent trend amongst the chattering classes to now refer to the mother country as England.

Egad I would fight to the last not to have anything "EU" on my car. Bad enough you have to regress to that beastly litle building society savings book thing instead of a proper passport.....
|
|
|
Surely the location of the holes on the car body dictate where the holes must be drilled in the plates??
|
With plastic bumpers, there are no holes. You put them in when you fix the plates.
