Mitsubishi Space Wagon GLxi 2.0 1997 - Intermittent non starting - Joyce Ward

Thr car runs well and occasionally fails to start. I wait 2 to 3 minutes try again and usually starts. it can literally go months between blips. it can be Winter or Summer so not weather related. Desperate for a fix as I really love this vehicle abd owned it since 1997.

Loved these old wagons too. I used to sell them new back in the 90's and they were well made, comfy, compact, nice to drive and rarely went wrong. The monstrosity that replaced it was met with horror at dealerships and sold in a fraction of the numbers.

If you are facing starting problems when the engine is warm, the usual cause of this is the crankshaft position sensor. This is a common issue on these engines. I'm assuming it is turning over and not just sitting in silence when you turn the key?

I'd take it to your nearest auto electrician to diagnose. It could also be a duff earth connection or irratic immobiliser on a motor this age.
