Vaxhall Zafira 2002 1.8 16v - no compression no 4 cylinder - kip2409

Vauxhall Safire 2002 1.8 16v Code p0303 misfire on no 4 piston just had full service new coil pack, wyms engine flush. Compression test says no compression cylinder 4, at 4000 rpm works ok sometimes. Any suggestions.

If its telling the truth its most likely to be bore wear, could be a valve problem but I wouldn't expect that to be intermittent.

Do you regularly use Wyns engine flush. It could be that it has dislodge some sludge and is have blocked a cam follower and jammed it open. Regards Peter

Yep Wyns is in the car now. Just been on a long run to try and burn all the gunk off. Ran the the engine nearly into the red a few times in low gear, on way home it was like a new car. Sat outside home ticking over it started to miss again. Thank you for your help so far

Your compression test should have told you if it was bores or valves. If it really was a compression problem though, I wouldn't expect it to be "ok sometimes".

BTW oil additive flushes such as Wynns state clearly in the instructions NOT to drive the car when it's working. fast idle only

Try switching injectors round and see if the misfire follows no 4 injector. For what they cost, try a set of new plugs.

You are missing the point. Is this the first time you have used Wynns in this engine. Did this problem only crop up after the service and the addition of Wynns. Regards Peter

This problem was happening before and after a full sevice it is the first time Wynns has been used, its also had a new coil pack. Sometimes it drives ok and no misfire and it goes like a rocket. Compression test still shows low compression in no 4 cylinder (about 30 what ever that means) could it be the lifters sticking? thanks again for your help everyone.

If the car has had oil changes missed, or the wrong oil used, the lifters could well be carbonised/gummed - the problem with oil flush like Wynns is that it often just moves the crud to somewhere even more vital.

Was it a brand new coil pack from a Vauxhall dealer, cheaper 3rd party pack or used one - they can be intermittently faulty if the latter.

So you have had the compression test repeated? And it shows 30psi? Did this new compression test indicate if it was a valve or a ring/bore issue?

Has your mechanic used his endoscope to look at the valves to see their condition and if they are closing properly?

There are a number of things it could be.

As a simple test,pour a small amount of oil down cylinder 4.If compression is restored,then you are probably looking at bore,piston, ring problems.If there is no improvement in compression,then it would indicate top end valve ,lifter issue.
