I have a 99 Astra 1.6 16V CD on which the mileage readout has just disappeared. Everything else appears to be OK, just the trip and total mileage readouts not lit up. Any ideas how to fix this?

The backlight has blown by the sounds of it. After some searching I found an old post of mine that covers how to change it.

Thanks for the info. The figures can be seen if you shine a torch on it, so it is just the bulb that has gone. Are there any other wires etc to disconnect and should I disconnect the battery? Any other advice would be appreciated.

No other wires to disconnect. The speedo console plugs into a multisocket which is released when you lift the lever I mentioned in thread I pointed you to. As for disconnecting the battery, I must admit I didn\'t, but the choice is yours. Don\'t forget you\'ll need your stereo\'s security code if you do. I did however make sure that the ignition key was turned off.
