Hyundai i40 1.7 diesel - 20nm torque really? - TopScot

Just wondering when I do my oil changes if I really need to turn the filter to 20nm? As I have no tools to click so give it my best guess!

20 Nm is not very tight at all, nor do oil filters need to be. Tighten it by hand to the point it grips the seal, and then give it a little bit more. Do not overtighten it.

As Railroad, you want to be able to undo the thing when the time comes preferably without having to drive dracula stakes through it.

Is this a spin on or a cartridge filter?

If a spin on then hand tighten only. Do not use any wrench.

If a cartridge filter then tighen very carefully and gently if you have to use a wrench. 20Nm is very little torque, (approximately 2kg at the end of a 1m bar static torque).

Do not overtighten since most modern cartridge filter housings are made of plastic.
