Anyone any ideas how to stop white mayonaise from forming
in the filler cap and hoses between rocker cover and air filter.
I change the oil every 5000 miles,I recently changed the air
filter and removed the rocker cover and hoses to clean them
but it seems to reform very quickly. It is a 1996 1.3 gls.
Any help appreciated.

Is car only used for short journeys? Then you'll need an Italian tune. ie, take it for a good thrash and cover several miles.

yes dave is only used mostly for short journeys, but I try to
give it a 40 miles run to work once a week.Maybe I will
thrash it a bit more.

What oil are you using ? Consider a semi synthetic to reduce the detergent element found in some oils. Regards Peter

Thanks for that Peter,I have been running it on cheaper stuff
but I will upgrade to a semi synthetic. It has a complicated breather system that recirculates back thru the air cleaner,
I was thinking of putting a breather from the rocker cover
down past the engine, old british motorbike style.

crofty: just an after-thought

Is your thermostat working OK?
Could it be that your engine is running cold due to a failed thermostat?

Thanks for that MB,never thought about that. The car temp
gauge seems to heat up normally. But I will take it out and
give it the hot water test.I have got some semi synth that
I use for the other car so I will shove that in this weekend.

No no no don't take it out if you don't suspect the stat. If the car heats up to the normal temp and stabilises then there is not a problem. It is not advisable to redirect the breather as it can increase the problem and is I think in violation of the current emission regulations. Clean out the junk change the oil and filter and give it a good run. Regards Peter
