2001 VW Golf 1.4 - Does my fuel filter need changing? - veedoubleu

Hi all,

Been troubleshooting a knock sensor error for some time.

Thread has dried up now as I think people have given up on me haha!

But a quick question, I don't have history for my car and it's now done 115,000 miles. I know it's impossible to tell the condition from the inside, but from the state of it on the outside would you say this fuel filter hasn't been changed in a LONG time? Pic here...

I've turned my attention to the fuel filter from my own research on Google.

Thanks!

Eurocarparts list the filter for your car, at prices from £4 to £9. I'd say at those prices it doesn't matter if it's REALLY old or not.

But to me, it looks like it's been in a while

Thanks for the reply, I didn't realise they would be that cheap.

I will definitely swap it then (after reading on Google full instructions).

I was just wondering if this one's the original from 2001! Wouldn't suprise me going by the previous owners.

Really hopeful that it will make a massive difference to my engine!

Think I'll just get this Mann one and collect it tonight...

Looking at the screwhead holding it in place it well might be. If you are DIYing it get the removal tool as it save time and saves braking any pipes.

It's an easy job and I hope it improves matters

I've had another look on my lunch break and have more questions now (SORRY).

1. How can I tell what way round to put the new filter in when the old arrow has worn off?

2. Which fuse do I remove to drain the fuel pump? pic...

3. I'm not seeing the push in tabs to remove the hose connectors, as mentioned on Google searches. Is it just that they are really dirty or are they both twisted around out of sight? pics...

OEM filter may not have arrow, but replacement will, just follow the fuels lines.

There are no tabs. Use a special tool for the job search ebay for one.

Use a bucked and don't need to drain fuel pump.

Usually the end where the can has been sealed (the rim) is the output end.
