volvo xc90 D5 - using coolant - strickjumpers

Volvo xc 90 D5, using coolant, no contamination of oil or coolant, no roasting, warning light indicates low coolant level, no evidence of leaks, any suggestions of where the coolant is going and fix...i suspect head gasket but would like opinions, many thanks. mike.

How much is it using / losing?

One thing to check could be the cap on the reservoir bottle, is it screwed on properly and firmly locked in place? If not, hot coolant can evaporate that way ...

Head gasket leakage into cylnder - expelled through exhaust. When cold, lots of steam from exhaust.
