Long term, with Renault holding the balance of power within the Renault-Nissan alliance in Europe, is there a danger we could see the closure of Sunderland?

Nissan built 650,000 cars in Europe in 2013, with Sunderland building 500,000 of those.

As well as the Qashqai, Note and Juke, the Sunderland plant will be building a new Infiniti model.

Sunderland is one of the most efficient plants in Europe, and has been since around 2000.

Rather than Sunderland closing, I would imagine that if any Nissan plants were under threat it would be the smaller Spanish plant, or, given the economic turmoil in Russia, the Russian plant.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, this new model has that the unsuccessful Koleos didn't.

Presumably there'll be some platform and engine sharing, and some effort to differentiate it (and I've already forgotten the name) from the Qashqai.

At least Qashqai is a real name - named after a semi-nomadic tribe from South West Iran.

The truth behind the name - according to autocar website.

Renault says that the first part of the name is inspired by the word 'quad', representing a go-anywhere four-wheeled vehicle, suggesting that the Kadjar will be offered with four-wheel drive.

The second part of the name is said to be inspired by the French words 'agile' (agility) and 'jaillir', which Renault explains as meaning 'to suddenly emerge from somewhere.'
