fiesta mk6.5 tdci - engine noise loss of power - bergs14

Advice required regarding engine noise. Had new central and backbox fitted and car sounds as if blowing still. Not a constant sound but almost pulsing. Seems to be down on power also.

Have noticed if sat on idle revs fluctuate between 900/1000rpm.

Any ideas i would be grateful. Also noticed a constant squeaking maybe from a belt or something?

Thanks

I think you need to take it to a diesel specialist rather than a dealer, they usually know what they are doing.

I'd suspect a turbo fault. Failures seem to be very common in these engines fitted in Fiesta and Focus models due to a lubrication issue. Strangely this fault doesn't tend to happen in Peugeot models even though it's the same engine.

I must add the car has done just 37k. I recwntly blanked the egr and everything seemed better then noticed the blowing sound. Car seems to whistle at 2500-3000 rpm thn goes. I didnt have this noise before the egr was blanked. Could i have done something reassembling the top of the engine with air filter box etc...?

It's possible you've left a charge air (boost) hose loose ? The sound you describe at the RPM makes me think the turbo is trying to force air into the engine, but it's escaping from either a loose connection or split hose.

Double check all the hoses from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the air intake / inlet manifold for splits, damage and tightness. If there's nothing obvious, get an assistant to rev the engine whilst listening under the open bonnet for the 'whooshing' sound of the escaping pressurised air.

Will have the checks you describe over the weekend. If the egr bolts were slightly loose after i blanked the egr would this cause the blowing sound at all? Possible they could work loose?

Like i say everything was great for a few weeks then on idle noticed the sound like a exhuast blowing

It's possible you could be getting a leak from the EGR blank so check that too. Basically, you're looking for any evidence of a leak from the turbo to the inlet manifold so if the blanking plug isn't sealed, you could get the boost pressure leaking from that ?

Ok tbanks alot sorry for been a bit simple here :)

Let you know how i get on!

Had a quick look and cant see any immediate damage to any pipework. Checked all the ones around the turbo and air box and all seem pk and joints re checked. Still get the whistle noise at 2500rpm though. Car still picks up ok but something not quite right.

Will be checking egr blank is all ok tomorrow and good seal there. Any other pipes to be checked?

The pipe from turbo to air box has a bit of oil on it i did notice. A worry?

I checked all pipes and no visible damage. The egr bolts were secure so no loose bits there. The turbo seems fine all fins intacts and no looseness on turning it.

Start the engine and still the same pulsing blow sound? Any ideas?

Noticed now a squeak from the aux belt area like one squeak a second noise. Due a change?

Thanks

Did you ever find out what the problem was?
