Toyota Avensis - no ignition l - snorbitz

Hi can anyone help. parked up no problems, went to leave, no ignition lights, or anything. lights gone, even the interior light. battery seems fine. checked contacts charged it just incase still nothing.

took battery out charged it up put it back in.

But have you tried it powering something outside the car to check, how do you know it's accepting a charge, it might be completely shot and you could charge it till the cows come home and it'll still have nothing in it.

well the battery charger said it was charged after about 20 minutes. it was bubbling nicely and sparking as i took off the charger. but haven't checked to see if it works. can they go that quick the car not missed a beat til now, only stopped for a couple of minutes. then nothing.

If there's nothing at all, then there are only a few things it can be:

  • Dead battery (eg. a cell completely failed)
  • Bad connection (eg. earth lead from battery)
  • Dead main fuse

If you have a volt meter it's pretty easy to determine which. Or if you have home start the AA/RAC/green flag person can do it for you.

ok will get the battery checked, think i can borrow volt meter. where would i find main fuse.

Something wrong there. You r chargere should not charge it liek that.

A 20 minute charge suggests the battery is shot. Get it tested.

So you're boiling/gassing the battery, and disconnecting without turning the charger off.

Lucky the hydrogen didn't explode.

Main fuse is the next culprit. Probably in a fuse box in the engine bay.
