Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8 - fitting starter motor brushes - mm707

Hi, need to fit brushes to denso starter. Not done them before , how difficult a job is it ? I can get the starter off no problem just worried about it ending up in bits on the bench :)

Thanks

How do you know the brushes are worn?

Getting a click every now and then. After that it usually starts ok. I've cleaned all the connections which helps but it goes back to the occasional clicking after a week or so. Been told it's probably worn brushes

If you are worried about it ending up in bits on the bench - well, that's what happens during taking things apart and fixing them, if you don't feel happy about doing it take the starter to you local auto-electrical shop where they can also test the armature windings with a growler and true up the commutator.

More likely to be worn solenoid plunger and contacts.
