citroen xantia - hydraulic leak from rear drivers side - daveboi70

I have a citroen xantia, it has sprung a leak from the rear, the leakage is green fluid which i think is hydraulic fluid, i ve been told by citreon it could be just a pipe that has come off or split, i have been under the car ahnd cant see anything, the rear middle sphere seems wet with fluid where as non of the others are wet, please can someone shed some light on this situation, and possibly give me some info as what needs to be replaced.

Hydraulic pipes don't come off.either a flexi hose has split or one of the metal pipes has corroded .needs to be sorted ASAP.

I'd think the problem lies with the centre sphere and/or the pipework to it (or above it).

Best advice is get it to either the dealer, (expensive) or find the nearest Citroen specialist, (less expensive). A lot of garages will shy away from working on the hydraulic system on Citroens due to their complexity so a specialist is the best idea for a first time fix.

Check the fluid level under the bonnet and top it up using the correct LHM oil then get it looked at ASAP. You don't want to fully deplete the fluid as it's not just the suspension that will drop, the braking system also relies on the fluid and that'll fail too.

You need a Citroen specialist, a main dealer will charge an absolute fortune to fix ,and a regular garage will turn it away in disgust.

The pressure side runs at up to 700 pound s per square inch, so sometimes a leak will be almost a vapour if its from a very small hole. it wets everything, but you often can't see where it comes from easily. If its just a drip it will be on the low pressure return side. The metal pipes can be made up by a specialist, they are a different size to ordinary pipes used on most cars. Metal pipes can corrode, rub through or crack from vibration. plastic low pressure pipes can dislodge or rub through. Spheres should be replaced every 4 years or so.
