Citroen Xsara Picasso - Citroen Xsara Picasso child safety concern - samuelodog

Hi all,

I am looking at buying a used Citroen Xsara Picasso.

Was after a ford focus cmax, but there are not many around, and the citroens are cheaper.

Problem is - looking at ncap ratings, I can only find a '4' for the citroen, and in the section about child occupants, it says bad things like ' child's head was not protected' and something about high neck loads.

But there are no details about the score for child occupants?

The Ford has a score of 4 for adults, and 4 for kids.

Anyone know anything about the rating for kids on the Citroen?

should I be concerned about the NCAP report if it is not very specific?

I also noticed that the citroen test used front facing child seats, and they asked for these to be used? Anyone know why?

Thanks!

The Xsara Picasso was tested in 2001 and has presumably not been re-tested later so it's judged by standard thewn. When was the Ford tested? Citroen are not alone in specifying the Romer/Britax Peggy. Ford did so too, certainly for some Fiesta models.

The criticism seems to be based on seat being forward facing and, in so far as head protection is concerned may be specific to the Peggy though if it's chosen across mfrs I wonder if it was class leading in 2001? . I'd expect forward facing to be norm for a child over toddling age, indeed I don't think we used one after 9-12 months.

As my kids are now over 18 I'm out of touch with current kiddie seat stuff - are rear facing seats available for bigger kids?

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about minor NCAP differences if the car fitted the bill in all other respects. I'm actually driving a Picasso at moment - loan car from my local French Car Specialist. It's a 2000/1 X reg diesel - presumably HDi 90. In spite of 180k on the clock it drives well with all the electronic instruments still functioning correctly and while trim etc is worn it's still absolutely serviceable.

Nearly bought one ten years ago but Mrs B preferred the Berlingo Multispace. Would that be another option for you?
