Skoda Fabia - Used Skoda Fabia scout diesels 2007 onwards - jns

Having a petrol Car for quite a while now and family size increasing and plus extra weight in the car my ecomony is spiriling, nether had a diesel car, but offer a lot more torque and power these Skoda Fabia Scouts look ideal you can even pick one up around £7000 upwards have been looking at the 1.6 TDI CR diesel, but I do see mixed reviews that it actually doe's the M.P.G it states and considering the 1.9 TDI CR although the road tax is £100, Insurance to my surprise it's almost the same! Can anyone give me any advice on what to avoid in the diesel range or look for a particular reliable model, year etc. 1.4 TDI looks good, but doe's it have enough grunt?

The Fabia used to be available with the 1.9 TDI engine but more recently the 1,6 is the biggest offered. Either would be better than a 1.4 diesel, althougha 1.4 petrol is fine.

The Scout is I think just a cosmetic option for the Fabia, athough I may be wrong here. It's more of a separate model on the bigger Octavia.

Bear in mind that a diesel wil cost more than a petrol of the same age and mileage, so consider one only if your annual mileage is high enough so that the cheaper fuel costs offset the extra purchase price. Some diesels can have very expensive failures at high mileages, although the diesel engines in the Fabia all have a good reputation.

The 1.6 CR engine has mixed reviews and a VW specialist I spoke with did not recommend that particular engine due to relatively poor driveability and moreover, lots of DPF problems. The best Fabia diesel is a 1.9TDI, the older PD engine, these have no DPFs fitted. The Scout is 4 wheel drive, do you really need it, with its extra weight, poorer fuel economy and increased tyre costs? Otherwise as Avant says.

Yes the Scout is 4x4 I over looked this! Still looking at a small estate is the older 1.9TDI engine is this a much better choice, because of the DPF are not fitted and more realiable? I am guessing the DPF is a diesel filter?

Fabia Scout is NOT 4wd nor is Roomster Scout they are cosmetic additions only. Octavia Estate Scout is the only 4wd model with the quattro type haldex set up so normally 96% front wheel drive with drive distributed to rear as slip is detected.

Do not be led to believe Fabia Scout is 4wd I do not even think there is additional ground clearance only additional lower body plastic cladding.

If you are thinking Skoda Briskoda is a good site

If the car's looks aren't key then the Roomster may offer very good value.

That's what I thought - thanks. If you want 4wd, JNS, an Octavia Scout won't be that much more expensive.

Or an Octavia Estate 4x4 NON scout version even better value and more anonymous bar a wee badge on the back and gear selector.

Previous model available in 105 bhp or 140 bhp diesel turbo. My Colleague had a 56 plate one, co car, vets and was the cheapest of all the Makes/ models in the fleet to run. Defleeted last year with 140000m on it. 105bhp
