VW Tiguan - VW Tiguan diesel dual mass clutch - Farmer Piles

Anyone got any info or feedback on a VW Tiguan clutch. We bought a three year old Tiguan from a main dealer 18 months ago and the clutch has gone. £1600 they want for the repair. 35000 miles when we bought it, 45000 now. Not a happy bunny.

We took it back to them when it was within warranty and said we thought that the clutch was going. They said the noise was being made by a failing aircon unit and replaced it FOC. That was in July, now 8 months later it has failed.

Any feedback, opinions or experiences appreciated.

I think you will have a very hard job trying to pin this on the garage.

After 18 months of use in a secondhand car there is no way the dealer is going to cover it. You will have no idea what use it has been put to with the previous owner, even a new car warranty would be unlikely to cover it after 18 months as it's a wear and tear item.

I'm a bit surprised at the price you're being quoted. In December 2013 I had the DMF and clutch replaced on my T5 Transporter, partly under warranty, at my nearest VW dealership. The full cost would have been £1200.

My comparison assumes the Tiguan has the same 2.0L engine as the T5, but if it doesn't, I'll get my coat...

I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the van will be a doddle to work on, proper vans usually are, simpler transmission too, hence a lower labour cost.

Clearly the price quoted by the OP is from a main VW dealer which we all know will be on the high side. A good independent or clutch specialist will almost certainly be cheaper. It is also worth noting that whilst the clutch is being replaced the DMF, if applicable, should also be replaced as if this fails soon afterwards it will entail a further similar labour charge.

When they replaced the aircon, did the noise stop? If not, did you raise the problem with them at the time?

I had a similar problem with a 3 year old fully VW dealer serviced VW Tiguan. The clutch pedal collapsed. The repairs cost £1700 and could not be covered by VW as the warranty had expired 6 months earlier. In short, Tiguans are no longer on my list of recommended vehicles. They are good utility vehicles for my local city council!

I read the VW forums on Tiguans.. Enough to put me off one for life.

Our local VW dealers come across - to those owners wh I know - as arrogant and very expensive. Most have moved to indpendent servicing after warranty expires.
