Which used 4x4 max budget 5000-6000 - pool182
I have decided to buy a 4x4, but which one? I like the look of the freelanders 05 for around 4500, but worried about reliability. Can anyone put my mind at ease? Or suggest an alternative?

Subaru?

What size 4x4 do you want?

Suzuki Jimny size or Amazon land cruiser size or something in between?

In that class nearly all the Japanese and Korean competition will be more reliable £ for £.

Help to know more about what you want expect and need from the car.

If you want to stay sain and have a bit of money in your wallet then stay away from all forms of Freelanders.

It's just a run a round really for bad weather and for towing a small trailer.

Would want it to be as economical as possible 30-35 mpg. Wouldn't want it any smaller than a landrover, and preferably five doors.

Like I said it would be used only around 8-10k miles per year. I live in a rural area and weather can be bad in the winter. I really like the look of the landrovers, but like I said I don't want to be spending a fortune on parts so am worried about the reliability.

I can pick an 04-05 landrover up for 4,400 roughly with 76k on the clock from a dealer with at least 3 months warranty.

It would be used a a 2nd car for a run around and the odd long journey at weekend etc.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

My money at that budget would go on a Subaru Forester, it'll be petrol and will just about do your 30mpg, i haven't looked but i doubt you'll find a Diesel Forester in budget unless its been to the moon and back.

Foresters, assuming they've been looked after, are very reliable and durable, might be a shade smaller than the FL 1 but not a lot in it.

HJ's guides, both Reviews and real MPG, above, are well worth reading.

Thanks for the advice but I don't rally like them at all. I would prefer diesel and have heard its possible to get 35-40 mpg from a landrover.

I also value the high seating position these 4x4s offer.
