If a dealer undertakes warranty work, I assume they are reimbursed for the cost of parts and labour by the manufacturer. Is this correct?

For work carried out under the manufacturer's warranty, then yes but they don't get as good an hourly rate as they can charge retail customers and little or no chance to inflate the labour times - no of course they never do that !

For work carried out under Sale of Goods Act, SoGA which is still in place as well as the manufacturer's warranty, then the selling dealer (not just any dealer of that franchise) needs to do the work and take the hit themselves.

If the car is still under the manufacturers warranty the dealer will have to get authorisation from the manufacturer to carry out the repair first and then as stated by RT above.
